Islands Insurance


Having decided to undertake a full refurbishment of their current offices Style Office were selected by Islands Insurance via a tender process to provide all the furniture.

We then undertook a showroom visit to each of the proposed manufacturers and working with Islands Insurance Director Jim Purkiss and Kieran Lee from Dunnell Robertson Partnership, we carefully put together a range of furniture to provide a modern, welcoming and more relaxed style to their offices that would be welcomed by customers and staff alike.

One of the critical areas to redesign was the main reception. With a high footfall of customers visiting the offices everyday, Jim Purkiss was keen to provide a friendly and welcoming environment for his clients with both informal and more formal meeting areas where clients can discuss their insurance needs in private.

Artizen Design were commissioned to build the main reception and cashiers desks. The main reception desk had to provide space for three receptionists each with dual monitor screens but also provide a clear welcome to Islands Insurance customers with space for form signing.

Using Corian, Artizen provided a softly curved unit that really stands out, providing plenty of working space for both receptionists and clients and also incorporating the Islands Insurance back lit logo. The Cashiers desk was finished in the same style but also featured additional lockable storage as well as some much needed extra working space.

Client pods were furnished with Orange box Pars tables with a mixture Steelcase Think and QiVi chairs finished in shades of blue to reflect the Islands Insurance brand.

Steelcase FrameOne bench system was chosen for the workstations for it’s flexibility and ease of reconfiguration and fitted with a central glass screen to provide a modern twist to the overall look. Steelcase Reply Air was the preferred choice of task seating with different coloured fabric chosen for the various teams in the building. All staff have been given a dedicated locker for personal storage and to maintain the clear, uncluttered office space as clients sometime do come into the main office areas for meetings.

General storage was also well catered for with mid height units preferred so as not to spoil the landscape of the office. Finished in neutral white these units also featured acoustic back panels to provide some noise absorption, especially close to the breakout area.

On each of the floors there is a soft seating  meeting pod used for informal meetings, collaboration and client interactions. Scattered through the layout are also handy meeting tables and chairs for client signings.

Islands Insurance also wanted to provide a relaxing breakout space for staff to have a coffee and eat their lunch away from the desk. Style Office provided a number of different breakout solutions with dining height table and chairs complemented by lower lounge style seating as well as taller standing height tables with high stools. Special attention was given to the fabrics used in this area to provide a more informal, relaxing environment.
